Timber Frames in 3D

One of the services we offer our clients is three-dimensional design. Believe it or not we are actually able to design our timber frames in 3D faster than if we were to produce traditional 2D drawings. By designing in 3D we are able to see spatial relationships and potential design conflicts easily and early on in the design process. Besides the advantage this offers us in streamlining fabrication and production it also translates to construction savings by avoiding project delays and costly change orders. We offer basic schematic 3D designs free as a part of our initial consultations and before entering into a formal preconstruction design agreement. All we need to produce these drawings is a rough floor plan, which we are more than happy to assist you in producing.

However we have found that the main benefit of three-dimensional design is that it helps our clients to easily visualize their finished project. For people who typically do not work with blue prints or construction drawings, picturing the finished product from lines on paper to seeing the completed project is not always easy. After we complete your 3D model you will have 360 degree perspective of what your frame will look like. Additionally, we can actually walk around your virtual timber frame.

Another cool feature of our design process is that we place our model on a photo of your site. With this feature you can see how your completed project will fit in with your building site or in the case of our garden pergolas your back yard.

Our basic 3D design service is usually schematic in nature and as we produce them quickly in order to make sure the look and feel of the project is correct and that everyone is on the same page. However we can also take these preliminary designs and add greater detail and produce “photo real” representations of your project. The added detail and photo renderings do take a good deal of time and unfortunately cannot provide them free of charge.
